Clean up smokestacks and exhaust pipes
- Use cleaner coal that has less Sulfur Dioxide impurities, wash the coal, and use "scrubbers" to chemically remove the Sulfur Dioxide from emitting gases
- Catalytic converters in tailpipes of automobiles can reduce NOx emissions into the atmosphere
Use alternative energy sources
- Nuclear power, solar energy, wind energy, hydro power, geothermal power, etc.
- Use natural gas, fuel cells, or batteries as a replacement to power automobiles
Restore damaged environments
- It takes many years for an ecosystem to recover from acid rain even if pH levels are back to normal
- Using limestone can "cancel out" the acidic conditions in lakes and streams in a process called liming
- Liming cannot restore damaged forests or soils, its a short term solution, and is very expensive because it takes multiple treatments to be effective

- Conserve energy use!!!
- Insulate home better
- Use carpool, public transportation, walk, or bike
- Buy cars with low NOx emissions
